The belly of the female Chum salmon being checked to see if the eggs are unattached from the skein. Unripe females are replaced in a holding pen until ripeness occurs (usually a day or two). The circular blotches on the back of this female is fungal growth which usually occurs as these Salmon move from salt water to the warmer, fresh waters of their spawning grounds. (c)Michael Wigle
