_MWB7272-Golden-Crowned Sparrow & cherry blossoms

A troupe of golden-Crowned Sparrows worked their way amongst the cherry blossoms. They would bite the flowers off at their base and then drop the flowers to the ground. Why? Are they only interested in that little piece of flower stem?
